I just read an article on Online.wsj.com that might interest you. The article from the Wall Street Journal discusses the topic of a racial divide in sentencing. The paper did a study and found that black men received 20% longer prison terms than did white men that committed similar offenses. The racial gap has increased quite a bit from 2005. The commission was careful not to accuse the judges of racism, but blames other things as factors.
