An article aimed at the human resources side of business discusses the pitfalls of having rules about allowing or disallowing side business projects by employees. This writing uses the example of some high end talent at Digg that did just that, angered the board by conducting this independent business, was forbidden from doing so again upon pain of being fired, did it again anyway, angered the board again, but they wouldn’t fire him as he had set up a mutual non-firing clause with another highly placed person at the company thereby risking the loss of two great talented individuals.
