The U-Card system is getting an upgrade. As a result, swiping is no longer required to enter dorm facilities. Now, a simple tap of the card will suffice. The cards use chip technology. Card readers have also been installed in laundry facilities and campus convenience stores. The switch in technology came about because the University wants to switch from the old technology, around since 1996, to the newer Ichip technology. In August, the old Blackboard system changed to the new CBORD. Students without the new Ecard will need to get an upgrade. That will cost them $10.
