New laws requiring voters to show photo ID are said to help prevent voter frauds, but opponents claim they will also pose undue hardships for many minority voters. Minorities and the poor, they claims, are likely to have more difficulty obtaining photo identification than other voters, and these laws erect an unfair obstacle to their ability to vote.
