Just read this on Recordnet.com. Schools in Stockton, California are becoming familiar with the unpleasant reality of kids bringing guns to school. Two recent incidents have put Police Chief Jim West on high alert. At Van Buren Elementary School, a seventh-grade boy fired a .22-caliber handgun into the floor of the classroom. At Cleveland Elementary, two boys were discovered with pellet guns after school officials were tipped off. Chief West has suggested the use of a contraband sniffing dog could make random visits to schools and offered to donate a golden retriever to the school district. Chief West also suggested gun safety education and training the school’s staff to deal with these situations. Assistant Superintendent Julie Penn is looking to an in-school suspension program to address the problem.
