For being part of a ring that created and sold false drivers licenses, Massachusetts State Registry of Motor Vehicles clerk Venessa Perguero was charged in US District Court with producing a false identification document. This can carry a sentence of up to fifteen years in jail and a fine of $250,000. The group was selling the licenses for $4,000 each, and several individuals were selling them in New York. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials began their investigation at that point.
