Interesting article posted on Firechief.com. Fire department chiefs collaborate with their local police department in local mass-shooting response training exercises. Tactical medics for example attend hours of peace officer training as preparation for a large-scale incident response. Imediat EMS and Fire department aid was instrumental to saving lives during the mass shooting at Sandy Hook. During a large-scale emergency response waiting until the scene is impractical. Situational awareness requires training but saves the lives of first responders. Police officers training spans hundreds of hours so arming firefighters is a time consuming measure.
