Interesting article posted on Nytimes.com. American prison populations have doubled in the past two decades, but New York City has managed to shrink it’s prison population. New York City is also the safest big city in the United States, and it has accomplished this goal without locking up more criminals. New York City has found a balance in reducing crime without increasing prison population and has saved quite a hefty sum in doing so. Whatever it is causing this trend, other cities should follow suit.
