I just read an article on Usnews.nbcnews.com that I thought you should read. Since the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, gun control is a hot topic. President Obama wanted police chiefs and sherriffs to come together to discuss this and work together to come up with a solution. These two groups can’t agree on what should be done. The police chiefs have more problems with criminal shootings and violence, while the sherriffs are in more rural areas where guns are related to hunting and family bonding. Public opinion is a big factor in this debate. Police chiefs are appointed and don’t have to answer to the public, but sherriffs are elected by the public. This makes a big difference to how each side will openly respond in public. This national debate is a long way from being over.
