As of November 1st, Oklahoma’s law permitting the open carry of handguns has taken effect. For those who are unfamiliar with the term, this means that OK residents are now able to wear a holstered sidearm on their belt. Bixby Police Officer Michael Konshak is got ahead of the issue by offering classes at the Police Department for those interested. Konshak is concerned that the proliferation of uneducated gun carriers could become a distraction for the police department, but classes will help to create a more responsible gun culture. There has been much interest in the classes, and they will continue to be offered. Konshak hopes that this will lead to increased understanding of the “self-defense pact” between the public and the police.
