Virginia’s voter ID law, which gives voters a number of different identification options, has been approved by the Justice Department. Unlike laws in South Carolina and Texas, which the Justice Department opposed, the Virginia law does not require a photograph. Bank statements, utility bills or university ID cards would be acceptable forms of identification under the new law. Although the law has been signed by Republican Governor Bob McDonnell, some state Democrats still disagree with the law, believing it to be too restrictive.
