Virginia has a new voting ID law for upcoming fall elections. The law has been changed from not requiring residents to have ID to vote, to requiring ID, but accepting many different forms of identification including but not limited to a student ID, a bank statement, or utility bill.  The Justice Department had no protest although made clear that other changes affecting voting need to have federal preclearance given Virginia’s past history of partiality. Governor Bob McDonnell is in favor of the department’s decision.
