The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has requested comments on a new draft of its Biometric Specifications for Personal Identity Verification (Special Publication 800-76-2). The publication’s current draft adds iris and face identification methods as alternatives to fingerprint scans. The draft also deprecates the use of swipe scanners for fingerprint-based identification.
