According to statistics released by the FBI, Towson University touts the lowest crime rates of out of all of the schools in the University of Maryland system. The crime rate on campus is declining even with the school’s continued growth from 14,000 students to 21,000 students. Students report that the safety of the campus makes them feel more comfortable and is a factor in making their decision to enroll. Officials are very pleased with the numbers, and they are continuing to remain active by policing the campus and having regular meetings with local officials and police. Although the city of Baltimore has a crime problem, the Towson campus is remarkably safe. Some factors attributing to the safety, as noted by students and officials, are the absence of non-student or faculty persons on campus and the lack of construction sites that can offer a habitat for crime.
