Missouri Southern State University’s campus security is now comprised of sworn officers, meaning that they are actual police officers rather than public safety at the “mall cop” level as it is known colloquially. With this change, MSSU campus security now has all of the police powers that your local police do. This means they can affect arrests for crimes like burglary, sexual assault, et al. There are four reserve officers awaiting the hiring process, so the force is set to grow. This model be seen as a measure to further campus safety.
