Reason.com indicates that sixty-four percent of Americans who favor stricter gun control believe gun crime is on the rise. According to a Rassmussen poll, people who favor gun control laws also think gun violence is increasing, even though gun violence has dropped since 1990. This decrease includes homicides and non-homicide violence. Gun homicides peaked in 1993, and were 43 percent lower in 2010.
